cafe lumiere

this is another little painting in a series i've been doing on small 6 by 8 inch canvas boards. i didn't start with any particular theme, but i'm starting to see that there might be one -- they're snapshots of the everyday things i see around me. i start by taking photographs which i then crop and reinterpret with my paintbrush in terms of line and color.
cafes are such interesting subjects to paint -- each place, at a certain time of day, evokes such a different mood and atmosphere. a film that captures this perfectly is cafe lumiere. this is a must-see for anyone who likes quaint little cafes, little bookstores, and urban scenes.

Another fascinating perspective. Love it; makes me want to walk into the room and see still more of the picture.
Do you get nervous taking pictures in cafes? Do you ask everyone if it is ok to take one? Just curious as I often want to take pictures in such places.
hmmm i have to say that i LOVE your lighting! holy cow! the details on the chairs and clothes! so much depth, my goodness!!! wow! i miss coffee shops! i once was a 2pk/day smoker and since i was pregnant i quit... and coffee houses are tempting even starbucks... sad, isnt it?! healthy but i still feel coffee houses are too tempting :(
I'm really enjoying your "everday" themes. Great painting style!
