attention to detail

this is a painting of a photo i took while sitting in a cute little cafe in hoboken called rue de jardin. they have the most delicious crepes there, and the owners have a bookshelf of all these interesting travel and design books for us to look at while we're in there.

all the details took forever to paint and i was getting a bit frustrated with it -- i almost gave up halfway through. added to that, the acrylic paints on my trusty little palette dried up because i forgot to add water to the sponge underneath! then, i realized the original paints i had put on the palette were different shades from the tubes of paint i have with me today (i like the old set of colors better) ... and that i didn't have my trusty golden brand naples yellow that i use for both skin and undercolor for wood effects. so with the disruption of setting up a new palette with not-as-nice colors, i managed to get it finished.

for the next painting, i'm going back to my cropped big close-ups, and this weekend i'll get my hands on the right paint colors i need!
